What to bring for the ATV Tour to Rainbow Mountain?
How many days do i need to acclimate before the hike?
It’s crucial to be well-acclimated to the altitude before undertaking a hike. We recommend arriving in Cusco at least 2 days before the hike to help you acclimate and avoid potential altitude sickness during the hike. If you have already been at a high altitude in another part of Peru before arriving in Cusco, we still recommend spending a full day in Cusco to rest, recover from your trip, and enjoy the sights.
Client Pickup
Ausangate Adventure can pick you up from your hotel, provided it is located in the Historic Center of Cusco. Pickup time is between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM, but please note that wait times may vary. Cusco has narrow and cobblestone streets, which can make access to hotels difficult; in this case, the guide will indicate the meeting point.
Altitude
Located in the Vilcanota mountain range, the mountain is named for the vibrant color bands created by the minerals in its composition. With an altitude of 5,200 meters, it is one of the highest in Peru. Reaching the summit of Rainbow Mountain is no easy task. The high altitude and challenging terrain make hiking strenuous. Nevertheless, the views from the top are spectacular, offering stunning panoramas of the surrounding mountains and valleys. If you plan to undertake this hike, it is important to take precautions:
With good preparation, you’ll be able to conquer Rainbow Mountain and enjoy one of Peru’s most amazing natural wonders.
