Palccoyo Mountain Tour Itinerary:
Our tour begins between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., when we will pick you up from your hotel in the historic center of Cusco with our transportation. After a drive of approximately two hours, we will arrive in Cusipata, where you will enjoy a nutritious breakfast. We will then continue to Checacupe, a historic town where you can admire three bridges representing different eras of Peru: the Inca, colonial, and republican periods. Checacupe is also famous for its church and as the site where Túpac Amaru II was ultimately defeated in his struggle for independence.
After another hour and a half on the road, we will reach the picturesque town of Palccoyo. A short additional drive will take us to the starting point of the hike, where you will get your first views of the Rainbow Mountain. From here, you will walk at your own pace for about 50 minutes, enjoying the sight of alpacas grazing in the surroundings.
Upon reaching the main viewpoint, you will be rewarded with an impressive view. Not only will you see the majestic colorful mountain, but also two other hills that are part of the Palccoyo landscape. You can take your time to absorb the majesty of the surroundings and admire the towering Ausangate Snow Mountain at 6,372 meters (20,900 feet). Later, you will ascend to the "forest of stones," a geological formation that has evolved over millions of years.
After exploring the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain and the Stone Forest, the group will descend for about 30 minutes to the parking area to begin the return journey. We will head to enjoy a delicious lunch. After the meal, we will start our return to Cusco, arriving in the historic center at approximately 4:30 p.m.
