What to bring on the Picnic with Llamas in Chinchero, Moray & Maras Tour:
Chinchero (Land of Great Weavers):
A small village located 3,760 meters (12,336 feet) above sea level, Chinchero was the royal residence of the tenth Inca king, Túpac Inca Yupanqui. Today, the village is renowned for its archaeological site, which includes a colonial church, a palace, and well-preserved agricultural terraces. Chinchero is also famous for having the best weavers in the Cusco region, who create handwoven alpaca textiles using natural colors derived from local plants.
Moray:
Situated at the top of the Sacred Valley, Moray features four stepped circular depressions in the terrain. The deepest reaches 30 meters (98 feet) and is believed to have functioned as an agricultural laboratory. Each terrace, with its varying levels, creates microclimates suitable for different crops, allowing the testing and adaptation of various plants to diverse climatic conditions. This innovative system reflects the advanced agricultural technology of the region’s ancient inhabitants.
Salt Mines (Salineras):
Near the town of Maras, the Salt Mines have over 3,000 salt ponds. The saltwater spring is located at the highest point of the complex. The residents of Maras harvest salt through an evaporation process that can last up to a month before it is delivered to nearby markets.
