The first destination will be the Yanahuara Viewpoint, one of Arequipa's most representative sites. From this privileged spot, more than 7,546 feet (2,300 meters) above sea level, you'll be able to appreciate a unique panoramic view of the city, with the imposing Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu volcanoes serving as a backdrop. Additionally, you'll observe the ancient sillar arches that surround the square, adorned with famous engraved expressions that represent the poetic spirit of the area.
Next, we'll transfer to the Añashuayco Quarry, a place of great historical and cultural importance, where Arequipa's traditional sillar is obtained—the white volcanic stone used to build much of the city's historic center. This quarry is fully operational, allowing you to observe the artisanal and manual process by which stonecutters extract and carve the stone. The site has become an astonishing natural canyon, with walls over 98 feet (30 meters) high, perfect for capturing high-impact photos.
Our next visit is to the Quebrada de Culebrillas, an active sillar quarry located between the Uchumayo and Cerro Colorado districts. Here, we'll take a gentle walk of about 20 minutes along a narrow gorge surrounded by rocks sculpted by wind and water. Within this basin, visitors will have the opportunity to find pre-Inca petroglyphs, enigmatic figures carved into rock that connect us with the ancient civilizations that resided in this area hundreds of years ago. On the return to the city, you'll be able to appreciate the ancient Apachetas, conical stone constructions.
